Thank You

Dear Swimmers and Donors,

Friends Of The Pool and Florida Keys Swim Club would like to extend our warmest appreciation and gratitude for your involvement in the 2009 Spring Swim A Thon. With your help we achieved our goal. That is no small task! A community’s programs and facilities are only as strong as the community’s members and I am proud to say that with people like you our great programs and facilities will be strong for many years to come. Please look for more programs being offered this summer at the pool as we use this money to get things moving. Thank you again for your contribution!

Learn To Swim

Over the last three years the Florida Keys Swim Club has expanded to become the most successfull team in the Florida Keys. The next step in securing the programs future success is getting the yonger age groups involved. For this reason we have started a Learn To Swim program. The Learn To Swim program is a feeder program designed to give the younger age groups the building blocks to become better swimmers as they mature and evolve to become competetive high school level swimmers and beyond. Our Learn To Swim is broken into 4 groups:

Starfish, ages about 3-5 yrs old * focus on becomming comfortable in the water, survival swimming, floating, kicking playing games ect.

Sea Horses, ages 5-7*, continue with being comfortable in the water and begin to develop competetive freestyle and backstroke.

Flounders, 7-9* yr olds, work on perfecting their strokes and succesfully swiming across the pool. Learn flip turns, dives and other parts of competetive races.

The Key Fish 9* and up will be introduced to butterfly and breaststroke and refine thier cometetive swimming techniques. This level is ready for competition!

Our group lessons are held to 5 people so that each participant gets special attention. Developing swimming skills from the begging will be beificial at all levels from recreational to competive swimming

Sessions will run for 3 weeks and are on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Swim times are subject to group placement.

Sessions are as follows:
Session 1: May 11-29
Session 2: June 8 - 26th
Session 3: July 6 - 24th
Session 4 Aug 3 - 21
(late entry is accepted)

Lessons are currently taught by Washington College Swimming Alumnus Andrea Cole. To reserve a spot call 302-222-6098 for more information.

* Ages are guidlines. Program objectivies will be used to determine participant placement.

PRACTICE CANCELLED:
*practice will always be cancelled on the meet days listed below as I will be at the Meets.

Practices will be reduced for the week of July 27th. Times are as follows;

Tuesday; Jacobs 8-10AM
Wednesday; Founders 5-7PM
Thursday; Jacobs 8-10AM
Friday; Founders 5-7PM
Saturday; Jacobs 8-10AM

Mission Statement and Practice Goals

Mission Statement:The goal of our swim club is to train age group, and high school level swimmers in a way that improves their skills as athletes, while promoting and encouraging their love of the sport. It is also our goal to develop mentally strong, and confident kids who can carry the tools of the sport into all areas of their life. We recognize that successful swimmers are important, but not nearly as important as successful people.

Practice Goals:A FKSC practice is not designed to grind out yardage, but more so to use a balance of teaching , drilling, and fast swimming to make sure the quality of the swimming, and the sport is maintained. There are times when we will not focus on how fast a swimmer is, but how that swimmer chooses to go fast. There are other times, however, when the competitive drive, and the willingness to test one's skill against others will be encouraged, and swimmers will most definitely practice swimming fast. In the end, our goal is to design a well balanced program that will take the Florida Keys Swim Club to the next level.
